CapTel uses an enhanced voice recognition technology to transcribe the users’ spoken words (via a trained agent) into text for the individual with hearing loss to read on the built-in display screen. The CapTel user does not need to dial a special number to connect to the service.

The CapTel user simply dials the number of the party they wish to call, once connected to the call center, the agent re-voices everything the called party says into their computer system which is transcribed into text. During the conversation, the CapTel user reads the captions on the screen of the phone and responds using their own voice as they would on a traditional telephone.
